The engine is the power source of the car, and just like the heart pumps blood through your body, the engine drives your car forward.

  • Internal Combustion Engines (ICE): The most common type of engine found in vehicles today. ICE engines burn fuel (gasoline, diesel) in a controlled manner to create explosions, which move pistons and crankshafts, converting chemical energy into mechanical energy.
  • Electric Engines: Found in electric vehicles (EVs), these engines use electricity stored in batteries to produce motion. Unlike internal combustion engines, electric motors are generally more efficient, with fewer moving parts.

The engine consists of several important subcomponents:

  • Pistons: These move up and down within the cylinders to generate power.
  • Crankshaft: Converts the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion, ultimately driving the wheels.
  • Timing Belt/Chain: Coordinates the movement of the camshaft and crankshaft, ensuring that the engine’s valves open and close at the right time.
